Garmisch–
Exploring Bavaria's sights Zugspitze
and Surroundings
This tour takes you around the entire Zugspitze. On the way, you
will have the most fabulous views on Wetterstein, Otztal Alps,
Karwendel and the Mieming mountains. The trip continues via Seefeld,
Mösern, and Telfs and back over the 'Fernpass' with its three
beautiful mountain lakes.
Ammertal Wieskirche (Ammer valley
and Church 'Wies')
In the famous Wieskirche, lovingly called "die Wies"
by locals, you can admire the most refined Rococo art. Not surprisingly,
this jewel of Rococo-architecture was included on UNESCO's World
Heritage List.
Castles
The picturesque small town Füssen is situated at the foot
of the Lechtaler Alps. Right next to it you find the small village
Schwangau, which is famous for its two castles. One is King Maximilian's
castle Hohenschwangau, in which his son the famous King Ludwig
II grew up to be the 'Märchenkönig' ('fairytale king').
From there it is only a short walk to the much more famous castle
Neuschwanstein, the most beautiful castle built by Ludwig II,
who made his fantastic dream world come true here.
Linderhof Castle– Ettal –
Oberammergau
Linderhof Castle is an enchanting garden castle, which used to
be King Ludwig's II most favourite dwelling. The fairytale king
used Linderhof not so much for representation purposes, but rather
as an extravagant recluse, in which the monarch could live his
nostalgic dreams.
The Abbey of Ettal Ettal, almost 900 meters above sea level, is
located in a narrow mountain valley of the Bavarian Alpine foothills.
The date of the endowment and foundation of Ettal is the 28th
of April 1330. Today, the abbey runs a boarding school and a number
of undertakings such as a brewery, a distillery, a bakery a bookshop
and a publishing house and others. Oberammergau is world famous
for its traditional Passionsfestspiele (Christ's passion festival),
in which only Oberammergau locals participate as amateur actors.
The large event takes place every ten years and attracts a lot
of spectators and media attention. But this place is also famous
for its most beautiful carving-works, which are abundant especially
in the wonderful old part of town.
Glentleiten Museum
The Open Air museum Glentleiten is situated beautifully in the
alpine foothills between Murnau and Lake Kochelsee. The varied
tour around the museum premises with its forest, pastures and
historic garden takes you to 40 buildings – farmhouses,
mills, mountain lodges and lots more – which were rebuilt
here in their original shape. In combination with their complete
interiors they draw an authentic picture of rural life in Bavaria
as it used to be centuries ago.
Mittenwald
The health resort Mittenwald is one of the most picturesque places
in the Bavarian Alps. With its colourful farmers gardens, artistic
mural and historic buildings this is Upper Bavaria at its best.
Mittenwald is also famous for its century old luthier-tradition.
It has a fascinating Violinmaking-museum, which has been recently
remodelled and displays precious exhibits.
Bad Wissee – Bad Tölz
The neat health resort Bad Wiessee is situated right by lake Tegernsee
and is always worthwhile visiting. In the afternoon you can continue
to Bad Tölz, which also can look back on a long tradition
as spa. The pretty town doesn't have a lake next to it, but the
river Isar adds a special atmosphere to it.
Tegernsee
Don't miss the enchanting tour around the picturesque lake! Via
Bad Tölz and Waakirchen you drive to Gmund, Tegernsee, Rottach-Egern,
Bad Wiessee.
Eng Alm – Ahornboden
We recommend a trip through the Isar valley to Lake Sylvenstein
and via Vorderriß and Hinterriß into the high mountains
and the alpine world of the mountain pasture farmers. The large
Ahornboden with its 500 years old maple trees is one of Europe's
most popular nature resorts.
Walchensee
With its more than 200 metres deep waters, lake Walchensee is
the deepest lake in the area. Surfers and sailor love it because
of its reliable wind conditions. Its turquoise waters and its
location are spectacular. The water temperature is low also during
summer, which is why this lake is not overcrowded with tourists
and visitors.
The abbey of Andechs at Lake Ammersee
The famous Benedictine Abbey on the sacred mountain Andechs is
sometimes nicknamed the "Bavarian Monte Casino". It
gained fame also because of the open-minded monk padre Anselm
Bilgri, who among others works as company consultant. Meanwhile
he has left the monastery. A nice scenic route via Murnau through
the foothills of the Alps takes you to lake Ammersee.

The city of the Habsburgs is surrounded by mountains and crossed
by the river Inn. It has lots of sights worthwhile visiting. Don't
